چکیده

A summary is first presented of the conceptual difficulties and paradoxes surrounding plastic bifurcation buckling analysis. Briefly discussed are nonconservativeness, loading rate during buckling, and the discrepancy of buckling predictions with use of .I2 flow theory vs JZ deformation theory. The axisymmetric prebuckling analysis, including large deflections, elastic-plastic material behavior and creep is summarized. Details are given on the analysis of nonsymmetric bifurcation from the deformed axisymmetric state. Both JZ flow theory and JZ deformation theory are described. The treatment, based on the finite-difference energy method, applies to layered segmented and branched shells of arbitrary meridional shape composed of a number of different elastic-plastic materials. Numerical results generated with a computer program based on the analysis are presented for an externally pressurized cylinder with conical heads. Nonlinear buckling behaviour of spherical shells: barriers and symmetry-breaking dimples.

The nonlinear axisymmetric post-buckling behaviour of perfect, thin, elastic spherical shells subject to external pressure and their asymmetric bifurcations are characterized, providing results for a structure/loading combination with an exceptionally nonlinear buckling response. Immediately after the onset of buckling, the buckling mode localizes into a dimple at the poles. The relations among...

Buckling of Spherical Shells Revisited

A study is presented of the post-buckling behavior and imperfection-sensitivity of complete spherical shells subject to uniform external pressure. The study builds on and extends the major contribution to spherical shell buckling by W.T. Koiter in the 1960’s. Numerical results are presented for the axisymmetric large deflection behavior of perfect spheres followed by an extensive analysis of th...

Vibration and Critical Speed of Axially loaded Rotating Orthotropic Cylindrical Shells

In this paper, classical thin shell theory is used to analyze vibration and critical speed of simply supported rotating orthotropic cylindrical shell. The effects of centrifugal and Coriolis forces due to the rotation are considered in the present for‌mulation.. In addition, axial load is applied on cylinder as a ratio of critical buckling load. Finally the effects of orthotropic ratio, materia...

A Cusp Catastrophe Model of Instability of Slip-buckling Slope

A cusp catastrophe model is developed for slip-buckling slope by catastrophe theory, and the formulations of the necessary and su1⁄2cient conditions for instability of the slope are presented. It is found that di ̈erent regions (II, III and IV in Fig. 4) in the control space divided by the bifurcation set correspond well to the primary, secondary and tertiary creep phases. The corresponding disc...
